Love Language: Fruits
How do you express care and affection? Love languages come in many different shapes and forms. For many Chinese Americans, it is in the form of cut fruit.
Growing up, this was very different from the show of affection I was used to seeing on television, where families would hug or tell their children that they love them. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I would realize cut fruit was my parents’ way of showing love.
I wanted to create this illustration series to celebrate my heritage and a shared nostalgia for something many Asian Americans grew up with.

Process
I grew up eating a variety of fruits and I wanted to represent those in the series. I first drew rough sketches for each fruit and worked in black and white without any color. Due to the nature of Risograph printing, I designed the color with the intention I would choose 3 colors to print with.
