Monster
Monster is an animated short film created by Stephanie Lin and Thomas Shek during their final year at School of Visual Arts. Monster has been accepted at film festivals such as Cannes Film Festival, SigGraph Asia, Glasgow Independent Film Festival, and was honored with Best Animated Short Film at Lower East Side Film Festival.
Process
In this collaboration, my responsibilities included art direction, design, look development, modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting, and compositing. Writing and storyboard was a collaborative effort with co-director, Thomas Shek.
Design
Color and shape was an important part of the design language of the film. To show the transition from a happy “normal” setting to panic and escalating fear, I utilized warm colors for day, and more unnatural vibrant colors to dramatize Tim’s imaginary world.
Character design was inspired by the contrast of round and soft shapes to sharp and jagged.
