Nightmare Malaria: Against Malaria PSA

Most people know that Malaria is a disease contracted by mosquitoes. Once contracted, the body suffers through a variety of symptoms. Every year, over a million people in the world die from Malaria. Yet surprisingly, something as simple as a $3 mosquito net can prevent an infection!

The team at Psyop in collaboration with Against Malaria reimagines the journey of a little girl infected with Malaria. Fever dreams are said to be one of the symptoms of Malaria. It was through this idea, Nightmare Malaria was born.

My role on this project was as a Designer and 3d Artist. I contributed to the storyboards and visual design while being primarily responsible for the experimental look development of the transformation sequences, modeling, rigging, and texturing.

Process

The stylized world of Nightmare Malaria was experimental and pushed the idea of what 3D could look like. We explored 2D style rendering and created rigged animations that felt gnarly when transforming to our nightmare versions.
